London Fall Season celebrates ALEXANDER McQUEEN

Uncompromising: The unusual hairstyle given to the models at the McQ show

Fashion Work of art: Models had gravity-defying sculptural Hair Military-inspired
MCQ by ALEXANDER MCQUEEN: A MILITARY-THEMED CATWALK DEBUT THAT ELEVATED THIS LABEL TO HIGH FASHION

In light of this season, a fashion enchanted forest, the floor carpeted with Fall  fallen leaves, Sarah Burton unveiled the first ever catwalk show for Alexander McQueen McQ label – and she chose the brand’s hometown of London to do it. The fashion shows major departure from McQ’s previously street style vibe – there was no denim, no tartan. Instead, there was high fashion. Military style coats in black and forest green had cinched waists but wonderful volume, created by layers of tulle underneath. Prom dresses, slim leather overcoats, thigh-length boots. Elsewhere, more tulle – this time on an attitudey prom dress, sewn with thousands of colorful petals. Lapels were wide, jackets were neat. There was velvet, wool and heavy embroidery: luxury fabrics that took this label to a new level. I loved the military belts with gold chains, the perfectly cut coats and the luxurious velvet – and of course, that gravity-defying hair very McQueen inspired in the Crystal Palace. – - DEBORAH ARTHURS

Fall Season at ACNE, London

ACNE FALL/WINTER 2012.13

Acne was all about layering, belts, small waists and lots of fabric! Super thick waist belts took over the show (the new-age corset, perhaps?), nipping in quilted jackets, and luring through inflated shirts. Colors started in deep dark maroons and oranges onto more acidic splashes of green, blues, and yellow. Structure and definition rained the Acne show for sure. A+! -TLI | International Icons reign supreme at this London Fashion Week. Fashion Continue reading

Samantha Cameron, Lana Del Rey at London Fashion Week

Samantha Cameron, Lana Del Ray, Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo are among the celebrities taking in London Fashion WeekIt’s Presidents Day in the U.S., but fortunately we have London to satisfy our taste for fashion news. Starting at the top, Samantha Cameron, wife of British Prime Minister David Cameron, sat on the front row of Christopher Kane’s runway show Monday during London Fashion Week. She is her husband’s “ambassador” to the British Fashion Council. [Telegraph] Mulberry adopted singer Lana Del Rey for its showing, creating a bag named after her, sitting her front row at the runway and enticing her to sing at the brand’s party Sunday night. [The Cut] Plenty of other celebrities and socialites have been taking in the shows as well, including Olivia Palermo, Alexa Chung, Pixie Geldof and singers Alexandra Burke and Kate Nash.  [Telegraph] So far, the designers in London seem to be showing more colorful clothes for fall than did the designers at New York Fashion Week. [The Cut] Top modeling agencies in Britain are prohibiting their models from using tanning beds, due to the risk factors for skin cancer — and wrinkles too. [Fashionista]  — by Susan Denley

Peter Pilotto Fall 2012

Peter Pilotto’s Christopher De Vos and Peter Pilotto continue to be one of the bright spots on the London calendar and a runaway shows favorite of the British press. With more collections like fall, it’s well deserved praise. Their inspiration was Asian art and architecture. Their lineup was sexy and bold. Even their cropped, sculpted puffer jackets with zany prints looked body-con, which is a feat. They channeled the bright neon lights of Japan into stripes and abstracts printed on skin-tight t-shirts and paneled skirts. There were shades of Nicolas in the strong attitude of the girls. The duo took the turtleneck and turned it into a sultry velvet look for evening, its bodice a structured lattice of straps and and cut-outs. Skinny cropped pants, t-shirts and dresses were worked in big florals. When sleeves didn’t hug shoulders and arms, they were pumped up. The same lean lines applied to evening, a gray floor-grazing look paneled with what looked like skewed neon lighting. It was smart and provocative and right on trend with the notion of not wearing the obvious for evening. To the left we see Matthew Williamson, the prince of prints and pattern, harnessed all those years of understanding how to mix them into a lady-fied, grown up collection. While it was still Williamson-fun — there was a lot of colored fur — the collection will surely appeal to a new set of customers, while giving his core something new to think about. He strongly messaged Continue reading

No Bollywood celeb walked the ramp for the ace designer. However, Urmila Matondkar, Kangna Ranaut and Mahima Chaudhary graced the front row. “Kangna and Mahima were so sweet. They were on the flight with me today and they asked if I have a show today. They came with me as friends to support me. It wasn’t planned. Even Urmila was here,” said the happy designer. From quite some time, Manish has not been getting any showstopper. “I have stopped doing that from two years. The focus here was Kashmir. So I didn’t want any actor on the ramp to take away the focus. So when it comes to fashion Continue reading

With a soundtrack spattered with hammering rain mixed by The Libertines, and a press release promising ‘corrupted elegance’ we were expecting big things from Todd Lynn. With well-cut seperates in autumnal tones of rust orange, chocolate brown and teal – Lynn seemed to tick all the boxes at first. Fur stoles made of Fisher, a ‘relation’ of Sable, added a touch of glamour but the collection still fell a little short. The designer’s usual sculptural, futuristic aesthetic was there, while he attempted to branch out and make his first foray into draped silk. Shoulder high leather gloves added an interesting twist but otherwise the styling was basic. One note of interest came in the form of a gold feathered collar courtesy of Shaun Leane. – Sophie Warburton, fashion assistant, ©Daily Telegraph. London F/W: Digital Prints

LFW: Digital print + metallics on day 1

Good news! Two of our favorite trends have got a new lease of life for Autumn! Metallics have got dirty and more natural with pewter and copper replacing bright silver. The Felder Felder collection was apparently inspired by photos of nudes in caves by Ryan McGinley and you can see all the pretty stony colors in the beautiful prints. Jean-Pierre Braganza’s collection had a more industrial feel with moody pewter with metallic-detail patterns and more structured silhouettes. The brighter prints had delicious shots of purple through them and hidden chandeliers. PPQ mixed grown-up monochrome prints with moss green metallics and shiny black pieces and while there were quirky touches – the occasional heart sequin on a check and clusters of gems, tweed, sensible knits and floaty demure Continue reading
