New York’s Fashion Week concludes over 300 shows

(CNN) — Dark colors, bold patterns and shimmering fabrics emerged as prominent themes from New York’s Fall 2012 Fashion Week, which concluded Thursday after a packed schedule of more than 300 shows. While runway fashion tends to be over the top for most of us mere mortals, it sets the tone for what to expect in stores this fall. With around 320 shows and presentations this season — a 60% increase from five years ago, according to industry digest Business of Fashion — that’s a big pool of inspiration to draw upon. “New York Fashion Week just keeps getting bigger and bigger, and the calendar more packed,” said Leah Chernikoff, executive editor of style blog Fashionista, which had wall-to-wall coverage of Fashion Week. “There’s something nice about New York Fashion Week being so democratic — anyone with some serious hustle (and cash) can show.” Insiders dish: My most embarrassing Fashion Week moments Fashion Week also marks some of the biggest Continue reading

Now Rhodes Leads to Paris

ZANDRA RHODES will show at Paris Fashion Week fashion show this season, as she hosts a retrospective show featuring her most iconic pieces taken from her label’s rich archives. The legendary designer will open On | Off’s Paris schedule on Wednesday 29 – her first show since 2007, when she launched her MAC make-up line in London. “Since On|Off approached me, I’ve been hunting out and going through all my storage boxes to find the key garments and looks that I have designed over the last four decades,” she told us last night. “I knew a month ago that it was happening but kept pushing it to the back of my mind with fright. Now it’s upon me and I can’t run away!” As well as showing her most famous items, Rhodes will also treat audiences to a host of new designs – as well as a new print, which will adorn guests’ goodie bags. “Paris fashion week is the ultimate place for fashion shows,” she said. “I am very nervous, but I’m excited about showing all the varied looks that I have invented – the ethnic chiffon with their feathers, I was the first; the Indian Continue reading

New York Fashion Week: Marc Jacobs hires underage models for catwalk show

Marc Jacobs latest: Enters underage models debate by hiring two 14 year-olds to walk in his fall/winter 2012 show, which is against industry guidelines.

Pre-New York Fashion Week, chairman of the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), Diane von Furstenberg, released an exhaustive list of guidelines aimed at keeping models fit. Supplying healthy meals on fittings, professional help for those struggling with eating disorders and checking IDs to ensure models are over 16 pre-shows were just some of the items on the modelling check list. But it seems this last one has already been forgotten. Less than two weeks after the list was released, top designer Marc Jacobs has sent two underage models down his autumn/winter 2012 catwalk on Monday, February 13. Brazilian model Thairina Garcia and star of the winter 2011 Prada campaign, Ondira Hardin, both took to the catwalk despite the fact that they are both, reportedly, 14 years-old. Far from being apologetic, Jacobs has defended his choice of models, insisting that the CFDA’s Health Initiative cannot influence his shows: “I do the show the way I think it should be and not the way somebody tells me it should be,” he told the New York Continue reading

F/W: Christian Cota, Rachel Zoe

Day Three New York Fashion Week: Sat., February 11, 2012 ©ourtesy Ann Caruso

Christian Cota went back to his Mexican roots and used Aztec prints, silks, floral embroideries, leather and fur for an incredibly strong presentation that is his best, yet.

Rachel Zoe best known as a celebrity stylist, had her second fashion show this season. She did what she knows best by reinventing the decade of fashion she goes “bananas” over.  She drew inspiration from rock’n'roll glamour of the late ’60s from fashion icons Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithful. It’s ….ALL the Rage

New York Fashion Week Fall 2012: Kate Spade

KatespadecollageDesigner Deborah Lloyd has really injected new energy and fun into the Kate Spade brand. For fall, she was inspired by French gamines hangin’ in the courtyard at the Palais Royale in Paris. That translated into a bright color story with lots of graphic touches, including the print on a full skirt spelling out “toutes les filles sont folles” (all the girls are mad), designed by blogger, fashion illustrator and photographer Garance Dore.Dotnails One of the key looks in the collection was a pair of blazing orange pants cropped over polka dot heels, and worn with an aqua-colored cardigan. The colorful cropped pants-over-heels look is one that all the fashion girls are already wearing , and apparently, it’s going to have legs! There were lots of cute extras, too — jeweled Peter Pan collars, a puff of a marabou feather purse and sparkling fishnet tights. And the polka dot manicures were genius.  – - Booth Moore @ LaTimes.com Fashion week blogs offer the fashion blogger,

Fur flying on the catwalk NYC F/W

Fur, cats and leather harnesses hit the runsway

Story by amy verner

Globe Style’s Amy Verner has packed up from Paris and landed in New York to cover Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The third day of shows presented an eclectic mix of fabrics, feminine silhouettes and foreign influences
Anyone with an encyclopedic fashion memory or a love for designer Phoebe Philo will recognize this rounded shoulder-full sleeve-belted waist combo from the Celine Spring 2012 collection (hers, an updated nod to Balenciaga and Christian Dior). And Som’s execution is strong – minus the filmy organza skirt.

One designer’s “merlot” is another’s “plum.” Add Peter Som to the list of labels showing this rich wine-y hue for next fall. Here, it stands out as stiff wool melton outerwear fashion.

No doubt a great amount of time and skill went into making this fox patchwork coat. Which is why pieces like these should not be saved for special occasions. Why not wear it to the grocery store! Or for watching hockey practice! No doubt a great amount of time and skill went into making this fox patchwork coat. Which is why pieces like these should not be saved for special occasions. • Som tends to introduce at least one new print to each collection. Last season, it was magnified rose blossoms in Technicolor. For this collection, it is the “mineral” print as it appears on a wool cropped jacket and day dress.
Fashion week styles though mixed in with many foreign influences, has a freshness that American fashion designers are known for. Marc Jacobs and other fashion designers like Peter Som, know how to capture those feelings that every fashion savvy woman is looking for. Jason Wu is another of Fashion weeks most cutting edge fashion designers who capture the essence of great Americana. Fashion Designer, Christian Dior – -
